Obama Counteroffers

Tis the season for giving, and President Obama and Speaker John Boehner have been exchanging offers on the fiscal cliff, giving the rest of us headaches.

Over the weekend, Speaker Boehner conceded to raising tax rates, but only on those making more than $1 million. Yesterday President Obama made a counteroffer.

Connecticut Horror

“A voice is heard in Ramah,
mourning and great weeping
Rachel weeping for her children
And refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”

BREAKING NEWS

As we are going to press, there is breaking news of a horrific shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. Details are still unfolding, but initial reports suggest as many as 27 people, including 14 children, may be dead. The evil of such an atrocity is incomprehensible, particularly at the time of year when we celebrate the birth of the Child who was sent to save us from sin. Please be in prayer for the victims, their families and the Newtown community.

Handbook For Cultural Surrender

The Wall Street Journal broke a truly shocking story this week about the latest draft Army handbook on how our troops should conduct themselves in Afghanistan. According to left-wing Army bureaucrats, the recent attacks by our Afghan “allies” against U.S.-led coalition troops, that have left 63 of our troops dead, are our fault! Consider this excerpt:

Liberal Hypocrisy

Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt is a big supporter of President Obama. Schmidt endorsed and campaigned for Obama in 2008. Contributions from Google’s employees were the third largest source of campaign contributions for the president’s reelection effort. And there was even talk of Schmidt joining President Obama’s second term cabinet.

DeMint Resigning From The Senate

South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint announced today that he will resign his Senate seat in January to become the next president of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington, D.C. think tank. Senator DeMint is one of the conservative movement’s staunchest allies in Washington, and his leadership in the Senate will be sorely missed.

Big Government Meets Big Business

We’re 26 days away from the fiscal cliff. Monday afternoon, the White House rejected a deal offered by the House leadership. Not much happened yesterday. So you would think President Obama would be interested in talking with Speaker Boehner today.

Instead the president took his arguments for higher taxes to the Business Roundtable — the presidents and CEOs of many of the world’s largest multinational corporations. It was a meeting of big government and big business.

A Laughable Proposal

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner went to Capitol Hill yesterday to present President Obama’s plan for resolving the fiscal cliff. With just 31 days left until virtually every household in America is hit with massive tax increases, you would think Geithner would have a serious proposal to offer Republican leaders. He didn’t.

But don’t take my word for it. Here’s how Politico described it — “Geithner’s Fiscal Cliff Offer: Obama Wish List.” Here’s what the Washington Post wrote about Obama’s “fresh demands:”

Rice Bombs On The Hill

Susan Rice, the Obama Administration’s ambassador to the United Nations, is making the rounds on Capitol Hill this week. It is widely expected that President Obama will nominate Rice to replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Part of Rice’s mission to Capitol Hill is to introduce herself to the men and women who will be voting on her confirmation. The other part is damage control.
