The Supremes Return
Today is an important day in Washington, D.C. On the first Monday in October the Supreme Court begins its new term, and starts hearing the critical cases that will shape our laws and culture for decades to come.
I have been intimately involved in Supreme Court confirmation battles for decades. I led the grassroots efforts to get Clarence Thomas confirmed in 1991. I publicly resisted George W. Bush’s nomination of Harriet Miers in 2005, paving the way for his selection of Samuel Alito instead.
Throughout the Trump/Pence Administration, American Values worked hard to ensure the confirmations of Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett, securing the first reliably conservative Supreme Court majority in many years.
This term, the justices are scheduled to decide major cases on affirmative action, free speech rights, illegal immigration, private property rights and the authority of lower courts to override legislatures in the drawing of political boundaries.
We will keep you posted as the cases develop throughout the year.
Women’s Rights No More
Before the Supreme Court redefined the meaning of marriage in 2015, many conservatives, myself included, were often confronted with the argument, “Why should I care? How does two men getting married affect me?”
We warned then that if society was unable to define marriage, we would rapidly head down a slippery slope where virtually every standard and norm would be challenged.
Well, here we are today where women’s rights are on the verge of being eliminated. Not only is the Biden Administration redefining Title IX to include men, but increasingly women and young girls no longer have any expectation of privacy in bathrooms and locker rooms.
This has become an issue for girls at Randolph Union High School in Randolph, Vermont, because school officials are allowing a biological boy to use the girls’ locker room. The girls on the school volleyball team complained that the boy was saying and doing inappropriate things while they were changing. (Imagine that!)
In response to their concerns, school officials kicked the girls out of the locker room. Parents were later informed that the school had launched an investigation into whether the transgender student had been harassed.
So, the one boy claiming to be a girl now has the entire girls’ locker room to himself!
Not far from Randolph, Vermont, American patriots stood up against this kind of oppression at Concord Bridge. I’m not suggesting that people should grab their muskets or take up arms. But surely there must be enough concerned parents willing to march on the school board to say, “Enough!”
Sadly, because of the radical left’s insanity, we have now a Supreme Court justice who can’t say what a woman is, and a growing number of so-called “medical professionals” insist that men can get pregnant.
Meanwhile, men and women of faith who refuse to repeat these lies are losing their jobs, and concerned parents who don’t want their children brainwashed at public school are being labeled as “domestic terrorists.”
Yes, the culture war is real, and can’t be ignored. The left is coming for our children.
“Equity” Is Not “Equality”
Fresh off her groundbreaking “alliance” with North Korea, Vice President Kamala Harris ignited another controversy Friday afternoon. She seemingly suggested that federal relief funds and efforts related to Hurricane Ian would somehow be tied to race-based considerations.
While discussing climate change and extreme weather, Harris said:
“It is our lowest income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions and impacted by issues not of their own making.
“We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality but we also need to fight for equity understanding that not everybody starts out at the same place.”
It sounds like Harris intends to prioritize low-income communities and communities of color when it comes to disaster relief. That would be a violation of federal law. The Biden Administration has already been smacked down by one federal court for basing certain government benefits on “equity.”
Harris’s remarks caused such an outcry that the director of FEMA was forced to clarify yesterday “all communities” and “all Floridians” will get the help they need.
The left radicalizes and racializes everything. Their agenda falls into three categories:
1) Get everyone at each other’s throats based on race so they can,
2) Take away your freedom so they can,
3) Redistribute the fruits of your labor to their favorite voting blocs.
This kind of race-based division and animosity has no place in American politics, and certainly not in the emergency distribution of disaster relief! Hurricanes don’t discriminate on the basis of skin color.
Biden’s Political Prisoners
The Gateway Pundit says it has received a letter signed by 34 prisoners currently being held in a Washington, D.C., jail. They are making an extraordinary request: They are begging to be transferred to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for better conditions.
Who are these prisoners? They are January 6th defendants who are being held behind bars in horrific conditions while awaiting trial. They claim they are being denied access to their families, to their attorneys and to religious services, and they are being subjected to abuse and terrible conditions.
I can’t verify the authenticity of the letter. But I do know that a federal judge has already held the DC Department of Corrections in contempt for violating the civil rights of one January 6th defendant.
If dozens of prisoners are making similar claims, it would seem to be a newsworthy item that someone – the ACLU, aspiring investigative journalists or members of Congress – might want to look into. Anyone?
Kudos To John MacArthur!
California’s uber-progressive governor is one of the most pro-abortion politicians in the country, and he wants everyone in America to know about it. In fact, he recently launched a billboard campaign promoting California’s pro-abortion laws in other states. Adding insult to injury, he quoted the words of Jesus Christ on these pro-abortion billboards.
California’s left-wing politicians are not competing for more jobs. They are competing to be the state with the most dead babies!
The governor’s appropriation of the Bible to promote abortion was too much for Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church.
Last week, he published an open letter to the governor taking him to task for “shamelessly misquoting” the Scripture “in support of abortion.” Pastor MacArthur urged the governor to repent and to use his office “to advance the cause of righteousness.”
Pastor MacArthur has stood firm and “fought the good fight” in the face of petty bureaucrats who tried repeatedly to shut his church during the pandemic. Now, he is once again standing up for the Gospel truth, and against the evil of abortion on demand.
I would like to think that he is not alone in this stand. I would like to think that the governor’s office was flooded with similar letters from thousands of California pastors. It’s not too late for others to make their voices heard.
A Clarification
In Friday’s report, an inartful sentence suggested that CNN’s Jake Tapper along with “hack” Andrew Weissmann both said that Clarence Thomas’s wife, Ginni, was “unhinged” and “crazy.”
Jake Tapper did not use that language. When informed that Mrs. Thomas still believes the 2020 election was stolen, Tapper responded, “That’s just wild. I mean, that’s just untethered from all the facts and evidence.”
