Jimmy Carter, R.I.P.
Jimmy Carter, America’s oldest living president, passed away yesterday at the age of 100. Everybody from Donald Trump to Joe Biden had nice things to say about Carter. But for those who may be too young to remember, his presidency was a disaster for our country.
Yes, Jimmy Carter was a Christian with a good moral character. He was a deacon in his church and a Sunday school teacher. But that did not make him a good president. Across the board, from domestic policy to foreign policy, the Carter years were a time of failure.
Carter’s weakness on foreign policy was legendary. More than 50 Americans were taken prisoner when radical Islamists seized the U.S. embassy in Tehran. They were held hostage for 444 days. Carter tried to manage the 1979 rescue effort. He botched it, just like Joe Biden did in Afghanistan.
Eight helicopters were ordered for the operation, but only five showed up at the staging area in operational condition. As a result, the mission was aborted. But eight U.S. military personnel were killed when one of the helicopters crashed into a transport plane.
And just as Biden’s weakness and failure in Afghanistan led Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine, Carter’s weakness and failure contributed to the Soviet Union’s decision to invade Afghanistan later in 1979.
The Carter Malaise
Meanwhile, back at home, there was a major energy crisis that had Americans sitting in line for hours waiting to get gas, just like millions of Americans did in the early days of the Biden/Harris administration.
Jimmy Carter knew how to farm peanuts, but he didn’t know economics. Under his leadership, America fell into a “malaise.”
By the time the 1980 election occurred, everyone was talking about a new economic index. But this index didn’t measure economic growth or success. It was called the Misery Index because it measured how much the American people were suffering economically under Carter’s policies.
If you think inflation and home mortgage rates are bad now, this is nothing compared to the Carter era. In 1980, inflation was 12.5%, and 30-year home mortgage rates were nearly 14%!
The only good thing to come out of Carter’s disastrous term was that it led to Ronald Reagan’s landslide election in 1980.
After he left office, Jimmy Carter engaged in many charitable works. People often say he was a great ex-president. But Carter often meddled in ways that undermined U.S. foreign policy. He seemed to have a soft spot for Cuba’s communist dictator, Fidel Castro, and was particularly hostile toward Israel.
He repeatedly called for the creation of a “Palestinian state” to be carved out of Judea and Samaria. Such a state would be more appropriately named “Hamastan.”
His 2006 book, “Peace Not Apartheid,” did much to legitimize the lie that the world’s only Jewish state was a racist state with no respect for minority rights. That outrageous charge led Alan Dershowitz to declare Carter one of “Israel’s most dangerous enemies.”
Jimmy Carter famously said he prayed more in one day in the White House than he did in the previous year. The American people were praying, too – for mercy!
Biden Exposed
Everyone knows that the Biden family’s influence peddling scheme depended heavily on leveraging the “Big Guy’s” contacts in communist China. But we recently learned just how high up those contacts went.
America First Legal (AFL) has been waging a protracted battle with the National Archives to gain access to key records of then-Vice President Joe Biden. It took a lawsuit to force the leftist bureaucrats at the National Archives to comply with AFL’s demands.
Of course, they stonewalled as long as possible, finally agreeing to release pictures of Joe Biden’s 2013 visit to Beijing on October 23rd, just before the election. But lawyers representing Joe Biden and Barack Obama intervened and were granted an extension.
Well, the extension is over, and the pictures have been released. They show then-Vice President Biden on an official visit to communist China meeting with Hunter Biden’s Chinese business partners. Remember, Joe always said he never discussed Hunter’s business with him. But there’s more.
Additional pictures show Joe Biden introducing Hunter to Li Yuanchao, then China’s vice president, and to Xi Jinping, the president of communist China.
The National Archives sat on these damning pictures for 11 years. These pictures weren’t faked or staged, unlike the pictures the FBI released from Mar-a-Lago trying to damage Donald Trump.
This is not the first time the media hid photographs that could damage leftist politicians.
A 2005 picture of then-Senator Barack Obama meeting with Louis Farrakhan, an America-hating, Jew-hating bigot, was suppressed and hidden by members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the photographer because they all knew it would hurt Obama politically.
