Trump Wins Again

President Trump's tough stand against illegal immigration scored a big win.

Late yesterday, People Without Borders announced that the caravan of illegal immigrants marching through Mexico would halt in Mexico City and go no further.  Some marchers, however, vowed to continue on their own.

We simply cannot have "caravans" coming across our border.  But here are some important facts to keep in mind:

  • Last year the Border Patrol apprehended 310,531 illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border.
  • That works out to 850 people each and every day.
  • And that's only the number of people who were caught.
  • That figure was also down 25% from the year before, and was the lowest figure in decades.  Some have referred to this steep drop in illegal border crossings as the "Trump Effect."  More on that below.

Most of those apprehended individuals are released and told to report to an immigration court.  The vast majority of them never show up for their hearing.  Why?  Because we have not been serious about enforcing our immigration laws.

The reason the caravan got so much attention was because of their threat to "march across our border."  That is the very definition of an "invasion," and they know it.

They believed we couldn't stop them, and they believed that because weak politicians in both parties have refused to secure our border and enforce our immigration laws.

Donald Trump is different.  He is serious about border security and about putting America first.

It is good that the caravan marchers have been deterred this time.  But until the wall is built, at least 850 people a day are going to continue crossing our border.

It is insane, given the age in which we live, to allow so many unknown people to enter the country illegally each and every day.

Trump Deploys Troops

Last night, President Trump signed an order authorizing the deployment of National Guard troops to the southern border.  In a statement, the president declared:

"The situation at the border has now reached a point of crisis.  The lawlessness that continues at our southern border is fundamentally incompatible with the safety, security, and sovereignty of the American people.  My administration has no choice but to act."

Predictably, the left is going nuts.  NBC News had the audacity to ask, "Does Trump Have The Power To Send National Guard Troops To The Border?"

Get a grip!  As I noted yesterday, every president since Reagan has sent troops to the border.

Today's New York Times ran an editorial entitled, "Trump's Irrational Border Plan."  Incredibly, the Times cites last year's 310,000 apprehensions as a reason to do nothing.

But here's the problem:  The "Trump Effect" has worn off, and it has been replaced by the "Progressive Effect."

Progressive politicians in Congress thwarted the president's border security plans, and illegal immigrants have gotten the message.  Border crossings this year are surging.

Meanwhile, many liberals are whining about the "militarization of the border."  Is the left's hysterical reaction just another manifestation of "Trump Derangement Syndrome?"  Perhaps.  But it is also an example of how the leftist culture turns normalcy into fanaticism.

A president trying to negotiate better trade deals suddenly is "waging a trade war."  A president trying to stop another surge of illegal immigration suddenly is "militarizing the border."

The American people don't see it that way.  Let me remind you about the findings from a recent Harvard poll:

  • 81% of voters want less immigration than what our current system permits.
  • 79% want an immigration system based on merit, not family relationships.
  • 79% of Americans said they wanted "secure borders."  Just 21% said they wanted "open borders."
  • 68% oppose the diversity visa lottery.
  • 61% said we need more border security.

By the way, there is a growing "resistance movement" in California against the state's insane sanctuary policies.  More cities are joining the Trump Administration's lawsuit to overturn the law.

In addition, Don Rosenberg, whose son was killed in a traffic accident by an unlicensed immigrant, is launching a petition drive that would allow California voters to repeal the sanctuary law at the ballot box.

Standing For Life

In a recent proclamation, President Trump declared April to be "National Child Abuse Prevention Month."  Ending the scourge of child abuse is certainly something we can all agree on.

Unfortunately, agreement tends to break down when it comes to ending the abuse of innocent children in the womb.  That's why I was particularly grateful by the bold stand for life that President Trump took in his proclamation.  I want to share this excerpt with you:

"We must always remember that all children are blessings from our Creator.  They are endowed from conception with value, purpose, and human dignity.  They are a source of unmatched joy, and they represent our Nation's future."

Once again, the Trump/Pence team is proudly standing for life!
