China's Elite Apologists

If you needed another example of the growing divide between cultural elites and the American heartland, look no further than William Dudley, former president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank.

Earlier this week, Dudley wrote an op-ed suggesting that the greatest threat to the American economy isn't China's unfair trade practices but President Trump's attempts to confront China's cheating.

Dudley argued that the Federal Reserve should abandon its apolitical status and do what it can to resist President Trump, even if it means tanking the economy in the process.

As one left-wing media outlet noted, Dudley was calling "for monetary policy to sabotage Trump."  Like Bill Maher, Dudley appears to be rooting for a recession.

Such comments are shocking coming from a former Fed official.  Next to the Fed chairman, the New York Fed president is the most influential member of the Federal Reserve Board.

Lawrence Summers, Bill Clinton's Treasury secretary and a fierce Trump critic, nonetheless blasted Dudley's column as perhaps "the least-responsible statement by a former financial official in decades" and "the worst case of Trump derangement in the financial world."

Speaking on CNBC this morning, Summers said, "Look, the Fed's job is to stay out of politics."  Summers added that Dudley's call to "subvert the economy . . . is grossly irresponsible and an abuse" of his former position.

And where was Dudley over the past 30 years when our industrial base was being gutted by China's trade practices?  It didn't affect him.  He was sitting pretty on Wall Street.  His children won't ever work in a factory.

Finally, we have an administration that is confronting China, fighting the trade imbalance, fighting for American workers.  And Dudley essentially says, "We don't need to stop China.  We need to stop the president."

Perhaps Dudley should register as a foreign agent for Beijing!  How many current Fed members hold similar views?

As Sen. Lindsey Graham said this week, "The price of standing up to China, I think, is a lot less than just giving in to China."

Defending Faith

As we all know, the left is not tolerant.  They want to force us to pay for abortions and they want to force pro-life medical professionals to participate in abortions.  You may recall that the Supreme Court had to stop the Obama Administration from attempting to force Catholic nuns to pay for abortion-inducing drugs.

Religious liberty is about more than just where you worship.  Your faith is not confined to your church pews or the walls of your synagogue.  It effects your whole life, including your professional life.  That's why we have conscience protections for people of faith in the workplace.

Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced that it was initiating enforcement actions against the University of Vermont Medical Center for forcing a Catholic nurse to participate in an elective abortion, even though the nurse had repeatedly made her moral objections clear to the hospital's administrative staff.

Roger Severino, director of the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services, told reporters, "We do not want a society where on the issue of life and death people are forced to violate their deepest-held beliefs."

The University of Vermont hospital has 30 days to adopt conscious protection policies in line with federal regulations or it will lose federal funding.  According to The Washington Examiner, this is "the third such enforcement the Trump Administration has taken."

Comey's Corruption

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released what many in the media are calling "a scathing report" this morning on the conduct of fired FBI Director James Comey.  It essentially confirms what we already knew, which partly explains why the president fired Comey in the first place.  Comey is self-serving and corrupt.

According to the inspector general, Comey knowingly violated FBI and Justice Department policies related to the "retention, handling, and dissemination" of sensitive government information when he gave memos about his interactions with President Trump to a professor so the professor could leak the information to the New York Times

Remember, this is the guy who accused Hillary Clinton of being "extremely careless" in her handling of sensitive government information.  Hypocrisy, thy name is Comey!

Horowitz wrote that "Comey set a dangerous example" for current and former FBI employees "who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information."

Of course, Comey is acting like the report exonerates him.  He tweeted a line in which Horowitz wrote that he "found no evidence that Comey or his attorneys released any of the classified information . . . to members of the media," and then suggested that his critics had lied about his behavior.

This is delusional!  It's like a child saying, "I didn't steal the cookie.  I had my friend steal it."  But it's the only defense Comey's got.

Unfortunately, there are also reports that the Justice Department has declined to prosecute Comey.  That is harder to understand.  Maybe it is something that would normally be handled through administrative discipline, and since Comey has already been fired, there is nothing else to be done.

Regardless, it fuels the perception that there are two systems of justice -- one for powerful swamp creatures like Clinton and Comey, and another for the rest of us.  It is maddening!

Meanwhile, this was just the first of several reports we're expecting in coming days from the Justice Department regarding the Deep State's efforts to meddle in our elections and take down a duly elected president.  Stay tuned!

More Anti-Semitic Violence

Earlier this week, Rabbi Abraham Gopin was attacked while jogging in New York.  A man screaming, "Jew! Jew!" bashed him in the head with a large stone and repeatedly hit him in the face.  Rabbi Gopin fought back, suffering a broken nose and losing several teeth, but he is convinced the man intended to kill him.

Gopin's assault is just the latest in a long spate of similar attacks, often captured on video.  Orthodox Jewish men are routinely assaulted on the streets of New York by attackers who don't appear to be robbing them.  The assaults seem to be motivated entirely by anti-Semitism.

After one recent attack in Brooklyn, Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) condemned the wave of anti-Semitic hate crimes, tweeting:

"This is happening way too often in Brooklyn.  These attacks absolutely warrant an effective investigation & prosecution, but there is a larger issue that needs to be understood & addressed. Violent anti-Semitic attacks in Brooklyn keep occurring & must stop right away."

Left-wing progressives control the entire city of New York.  Why aren't these attacks on Orthodox Jews causing an uproar?  If Muslims were being routinely assaulted it would be national news.

Sadly, this appears to be more evidence of "progressive" America's growing tolerance for anti-Semitism.
