Border Emergency

You've probably seen the reports from the border in the last 48 hours.  The Washington Post, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal are all sounding the alarm about a massive surge in illegal immigration.

We're not even into spring yet and there are hordes crossing our border.  "More than 76,000 migrants crossed the border without authorization in February, an 11-year high," reports the Times

Some officials fear as many as 100,000 may attempt to cross this month.   Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen told members of Congress today, "At the current pace we are on track to encounter close to one million illegal aliens at our southern border this year."

There has been a 338% increase in the number of families apprehended at the border, while the number of unaccompanied minors is up 54%.  Dozens of illegal immigrants are being transported to overwhelmed border hospitals every single day.

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan pleaded with officials yesterday, saying, "This situation is not sustainable.  The system is well beyond capacity and remains at the breaking point."

Here's the central point: This would not be happening if President Trump's proposals on reforming immigration law and building the wall had been implemented by Congress.

This would not be happening if the entire left-wing open borders establishment, their media allies and some wimps in the Republican Party had not signaled to all of Central America that nothing would be done to stop this onslaught.

President Trump is trying to deal with this crisis, but the swamp keeps getting in his way.  While our Border Patrol agents are overwhelmed, the politicians in Washington are debating a resolution disapproving the president's emergency declaration.  Do they not think there is a legitimate emergency at the border?

The latest senator to announce his opposition to Trump's declaration is Rand Paul of Kentucky.  Paul became the 51st vote to ensure the resolution of disapproval would pass.  Chuck Schumer is no doubt pleased.  Sen. Paul should be ashamed of himself.

Media Bias

Hundreds of thousands of illegals are pouring into the country.  Radical Islamists are on the rampage in numerous countries.  An opioid crisis is plaguing the nation.  And every day more than 16 veterans take their own lives.  Many survived foreign battlefields only to die at their own hand.

Yesterday, President Trump signed an executive order at the White House to address the suicide crisis among our veterans.  But I doubt you heard about it.

The front page of today's Washington Post, one of the leading opinion makers in the country, brings us stories about New York bureaucrats going after Trump's insurance broker and the accessibility of Trump's high school grades.  But nothing about the tragic deaths of so many of our heroes.

Good News:  Baker Takes The Cake!

The Colorado Civil Rights Commission has dropped its prosecution (persecution, really) of Christian baker Jack Phillips.  This was the second time that the commission has gone after Phillips because of his deeply-held religious beliefs.

As you may recall, Phillips won a critical Supreme Court case last year in which the majority found the commission had demonstrated clear anti-religious bigotry against Phillips.

Unfortunately, some commissioners were determined to make an example out of Phillips, and they went after him again.  But our friends at the Alliance Defending Freedom successfully confronted the commission with evidence of "ongoing hostility," and the commission backed down.

This is why the courts matter, and why it is essential to have a sympathetic majority when it comes to religious liberty.

To any #NeverTrumpers who may still be reading these reports, this is another reminder that most Christians were smarter than you about how the world works.  If enough people of faith had followed your Pied Piper ideas about voting third party, Hillary Clinton would be president.

Under that scenario, I am confident that Jack Phillips would be bankrupt today and that Christian business owners in 30 or 40 states would be facing similar attacks on their faith.

I am also pleased to report that in the face of unprecedented obstructionism, Senate conservatives are preparing to change the rules to dramatically speed up the confirmation process.  Better late than never.

There Is Hope

My friends, I'd like to introduce you to Isaac Bryant.  When he was at a recent high school wrestling match, the person who was supposed to sing the national anthem couldn't make it.  So Isaac stepped up at the last minute.  (In fact, he had been napping before his match!)

Watch his performance here and think about this:  For every left-wing socialist fanatic on university campuses threatening conservatives, there's a young man like Isaac.  America's survival depends on whether there are more kids like Isaac than there are those vandalizing statues of America's founders.

The most important thing you can do is to make sure your children and grandchildren embrace the values of patriots like Isaac Bryant and don't get seduced by the siren song of socialism.

China & The Cross

Here's a trivia question I bet you'll get wrong: Which nation is projected to have the world’s largest Christian population by 2030?  Nigeria or Brazil would be good guesses, as would the United States, the current number one.

But it's none other than officially atheist China. The Good News is spreading rapidly in China, and it's making the communist regime very nervous.  Read more in my latest opinion piece at The Washington Examiner.
